In honor of National Speech-Language-Hearing month in May, Clarke invited First Lady Shapiro to help raise awareness about hearing loss, speech and language disorders, and the importance of early intervention and support for students and individuals with communication difficulties.
First Lady Shapiro met families from Clarke’s Birth to Age Three Program and read the children’s book, Extraordinary Jordyn and her Bionic Ears by Dr. Jasmine Simmons, to the Clarke Preschool Program students.
“It was truly inspiring to visit Clarke Pennsylvania and witness firsthand the incredible work being done to support children who are deaf or hard of hearing,” says First Lady Lori Shapiro.
“During National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, it’s important that we recognize not only the challenges faced by individuals with hearing loss, but also celebrate the remarkable progress that’s possible through programs like Clarke’s. The partnership with St. Joseph’s University creates an environment where learning knows no boundaries, and I’m grateful to have seen this vital work up close. Pennsylvania is fortunate to have such dedicated professionals and families working together to ensure every child has the opportunity to communicate, learn and thrive.”
