The dedicated team at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, which includes teachers of the deaf, speech-language pathologists and audiologists, remains steadfast in its mission to equip children who are deaf or hard of hearing with the tools to succeed, supporting lifelong success long after they graduate from formal programs and services.
The Clarke Schools Alumni Council (CSAC) established the Caroline A. Yale Memorial Fund Scholarship in 1937 in honor of Caroline A. Yale.
Ms. Yale, a pioneer in her field, believed that students who are deaf or hard of hearing should be given every opportunity to develop the skills they need to succeed. She spent 60 years at Clarke, serving as principal for 36 of those years.
The Caroline A. Yale Memorial Fund Scholarship supports continuing education for Clarke alums.
The scholarship is open to any former student who has attended one of Clarke’s programs or services for at least one year, regardless of whether they graduated or mainstreamed early.
In 2024, the scholarship received 13 applications. “The number of scholarship applications is increasing each year, and it’s fantastic,” says Martha A. deHahn, Clarke’s chief of staff and the scholarship program administrator. “The Clarke community inspires us, and we are thrilled to see what they are doing next.”
This year’s scholarship recipients will use the funds to support their higher education, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of fields, including engineering, criminal justice, medicine and more!
Congratulations to the 2024 Caroline A. Yale Memorial Fund Scholarship recipients: Alicia Deso, Austin Moorhouse, Beth Karbowski, Daniel Weaver, Garrett Campbell, Kathleen Blanchard, Morgan Keely, Sandra-Kelly Atkison and William Rulison.
