Funder Spotlight: Partners in Hearing

Partners in Hearing, a public charity with an intimate understanding of hearing loss in children, has been an outstanding benefactor and partner to Clarke New York.

Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech is driven by a team of professionals committed to equipping children who are deaf or hard of hearing with crucial Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) skills to thrive inside and outside the classroom. The transformative programs and services Clarke provides, made possible by the generous contributions of our funders, create exciting educational opportunities and yield life-changing results.

Partners in Hearing, a 501(c )(3) public charity with an intimate understanding of hearing loss in children, has been an outstanding benefactor and partner to Clarke New York. Based in Mount Kisco, NY, the foundation is dedicated to supporting institutional programs for children in the greater New York City area who are deaf or hard of hearing and have recently received cochlear implants.

In 2017, Eileen Solla-Diaz and Michael Tannenbaum, its founders, were inspired to create Partners in Hearing after seeing the success of her son and his granddaughter in developing LSL upon being cochlear implant recipients.

Partners in Hearing has provided grant funding to Clarke since 2019. With its most recent grant to Clarke, the foundation is directing support to Clarke’s tVisit® Teleservices Program, offering virtual LSL services to children and families in the greater New York City area.

“Partners in Hearing has a firsthand understanding of the day-to-day life of families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing,” says Judy Sexton, head of programs and schools at Clarke. “The foundation’s generosity provides invaluable practical and emotional support for parents and caregivers as they navigate their child’s listening and spoken language journey. We are so grateful for their commitment to our work.”

Clarke’s comprehensive continuum of virtual LSL services for children of all ages and their families is available from infancy through the college search. This includes family-centered coaching, self-advocacy training, robust mainstream support and audiological consultations, providing the same high-quality support available through in-person services.

“We at PIH with our outstanding Board, have seen how enhanced therapy, supplemental care and family support can lead to success of children who are deaf or hard of hearing and we want that same result for other kids – simply put, that’s our Mission.  Clarke’s programs coincide perfectly and we are more than happy to support its efforts” added Michael Tannenbaum.
