Clarke’s Listening Walk at the Zoo is more than just a fun day at the zoo; it’s designed to raise support and awareness for the children who are deaf or hard of hearing learning to listen and talk at Clarke Philadelphia.
Over 450 attendees, including current and former students along with their families and friends, gathered for a listening scavenger hunt at the zoo. Participants practiced and honed their listening skills by delineating the calls of various animals, ranging from pigeons to elephants.
Collectively, they helped raise more than $76,000 to benefit Clarke students, including the hundreds of families served by the Birth to Age Three Program, Preschool Program and Mainstream Services in Philadelphia.
“We eagerly anticipate this event each year,” says Ashley Mahlstedt Weaver, director of Clarke Philadelphia. “Watching our students put their listening and spoken language skills into practice as they converse, laugh, play and enjoy a day at the zoo is always incredibly rewarding.”
We are also grateful to our event sponsors: Silvia’s Gymnastics, Teddy’s Tigers, WSFS Bank, Constellation, Fox Rothschild, MED-EL, Wawa, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Limerick Generating Station Employees’ Association.
