Meet Karas! He is a confident and positive child who effortlessly speaks both English and Arabic. 

Born with severe to profound hearing loss in 2016, Karas started with Clarke through the Birth to Age Three Program. As he turned three, Karas seamlessly transitioned into Clarke’s Preschool Program, on the path to building the listening, spoken language and learning skills needed for academic and social success. 

Today, Karas shines in the classroom, earning accolades from his teacher. Beyond academics, he thrives on the camaraderie of friends and the sense of community fostered at Clarke. 

Nermeen, Karas’s mother, is grateful for her son’s supportive team and notes, “The teacher of the deaf at Clarke taught me how to understand and engage with Karas. Through various workshops, I learned how to navigate Karas’s hearing loss.” 

The transformative impact of Clarke extends beyond academics. When Karas was two years old, he and his family traveled to Egypt to visit relatives. At that time, when greeted by family members, Karas had a limited vocabulary and lacked listening skills. Fast forward five years, when Karas returned to Egypt, the family was amazed by his remarkable progress as he actively participated in conversations. 

In the words of Karas’s father, Mikel, “Clarke gave us a new life and our son a new opportunity.” Their advice to others navigating similar paths underscores the resilience that defines their story: “Fight, be patient, never lose hope and speak up for your child.”
