The dedicated team at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, which includes teachers of the deaf, speech-language pathologists and audiologists, remains steadfast in its mission to equip children who are deaf or hard of hearing with the tools they need to succeed. Clarke’s ability to provide Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) services is made possible by the generous support of committed funders who share Clarke’s dedication to positive, life-changing outcomes for children and their families.
The Jim Moran Foundation has provided Clarke Florida with several grants since 2020 totaling $40,000. Located in Deerfield Beach, The Jim Moran Foundation’s mission is to “improve the quality of life for the youth and families of Florida through the support of innovative programs and opportunities that meet the ever-changing needs of the community.” Automotive pioneer Jim Moran created his foundation in 2000 to ensure his philanthropy would endure beyond his lifetime.

The Foundation’s recent contribution was directed toward Clarke Florida’s summer program. The Foundation supported children like Madison and Ellie. Madison is a seven-year-old who was diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss at age five. She is in the second grade, attending her neighborhood school. Madison received a cochlear implant in July and participated in Clarke’s summer program to bolster her academic skills and better understand her new hearing technology.
Her mom recently reported, “Madison loves her implant and being able to hear better now.” Madison (left) and Ellie (right) hit it off right away and bonded with other students who also have hearing loss in Clarke‘s summer program. They formed a strong friendship and enjoyed spending time together, creating lasting memories.
Alisa Demico, MS, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT, director of Clarke Florida says, “We are incredibly grateful for our collaboration with The Jim Moran Foundation. Their support of Clarke makes listening and spoken language possible for more children with hearing loss.”
