Clarke Florida Saddles Up to Read

Clarke students in Florida recently "saddled up" to learn and read with a special guest, Caitlin Gooch. Caitlin is the founder of the nonprofit organization Saddle Up and Read.

The organization encourages youth to achieve literary excellence through equine activities. Caitlin also hosts a podcast about Black equestrianship and recently released “Color & Learn Black Equestrian Coloring Book.”

Caitlin recently joined Clarke Florida students virtually to talk about horseback-riding and the importance of reading. She read one of her favorite books to students, “I Am Every Good Thing” written by Derrick Barnes and illustrated by Gordon C. James. Students asked questions to learn more including what horses like to eat (grass, hay, leaves, apples and carrots)!

Students will continue to enjoy “I am Every Good Thing” as the book will be added to the Clarke Florida library.
