School-age children are at school for an average of 35 hours per week and are out of school and awake for an average of 50 hours per week, which makes family/caregiver carry-over essential to student success in their listening and spoken language (LSL) development.
Guided observations are an opportunity for families to become active participants in their child’s listening and spoken language development after age three. At Clarke, families are invited into the classroom to observe how LSL and advocacy strategies are implemented at school and to learn how to carry over these strategies into their day-to-day lives.
This presentation will teach educators and speech-language pathologists working with students with hearing loss how a program such as guided observations can increase parent engagement and support families with carry over strategies.
