Clarke Honors Volunteers during National Volunteer Week

April 20, 2012—Dana Stallings, a Jacksonville, FL resident, is organizing a 5k run next Spring. At every mile marker, each participant will be handed a cup of handmade ice cream.

No, this isn’t a new diet trend, it’s a fundraiser! Dana owns a Kilwins Chocolate and Ice Cream Shoppe, and is planning the Kilwins Ice Cream Run to raise money for the Clarke.

Dana’s daughter, Haley, attended the Clarke Jacksonville preschool from 1998-2002. Dana says she is organizing this event because “Clarke did so much for Haley, and this is a way for me to give back.” She is also organizing an alumni parent support group, rallying volunteers to help out with classroom activities, building community awareness, and finding ways to engage student and alumni volunteers.

Dana’s story represents just one of the many creative and inspiring ways that volunteers are engaging and supporting the work of the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, and other organizations throughout the country.

National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. Clarke is using this opportunity to thank the individuals and groups who have given so much of their time to the school(s) over the course of its 145-year history, and also put out a call to action.
