Clarke Leaders Contribute to Historic Deaf Education Meeting

April 30, 2018—Leaders from each Clarke campus participated in the annual OPTION Schools meeting which, for the first time, included collaborative sessions with the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD).

Barbara Hecht, director of Clarke Boston; Meredith Berger, director of Clarke New York; Judy Sexton, director of Clarke Philadelphia and Cythina Robinson, co-director of Clarke Jacksonville presented and/or contributed to the meeting content. Martha deHahn, grants manager for Clarke and office administrator for OPTION Schools, played a lead role in planning the event.

Outgoing OPTION Schools Board Member Barbara Hecht highlighted the importance of curiosity and shared experiences at a joint session with OPTION and CEASD members. "These joint sessions grew out of the work of Common Ground, a collaborative project between OPTION and CEASD. We come together to advance our work on behalf of all children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing," noted Barbara. "Moving forward with genuine curiosity and respect for the work of our colleagues at different programs and different schools affords us the opportunity to identify areas of common interest and common concern so that we can bring about positive change in our field."

Both OPTION Schools and CEASD are committed to identifying areas for future collaboration to help children who are deaf or hard of hearing succeed and thrive.
