Clarke Mainstream Services to Hold Day-Long Workshop in April


February 10, 2017—Clarke Mainstream Services will be sponsoring a day-long workshop, “Childhood Hearing Loss and Additional Challenges,” presented by Christina Perigoe, Ph.D., CED, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert AVT on Friday, April 28. This special event will be hosted by CREC Soundbridge in Wethersfield, CT. The target audience for this workshop includes speech-language pathologists, teachers of the deaf and other hearing loss professionals. Parents of children with hearing loss are welcome to attend.

Workshop Description

The workshop will offer an overview of the additional challenges faced by children with hearing loss, including potential difficulties with assessment, intervention and in counseling families. It will also cover the challenges particular to cochlear implant teams. Research, references and relevant resources will be shared. Registration begins at 8:00 am, and the workshop runs from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm.

Presenter

Dr. Christina Perigoe is the Coordinator of the graduate program in Speech and Hearing Sciences (Deaf Education) at The University of Southern Mississippi. She is a certified teacher, teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, speech pathologist and listening and spoken language specialist. She is an international presenter and co-edited The Volta Review monographs, “Multiple Challenges: Multiple Solutions” (2004), and “Professional Preparation for Listening and Spoken Language Practitioners” (2010). Dr. Perigoe is a founding member of the Ling Consortium, dedicated to continuing Daniel Ling’s vision that children with hearing loss can learn to listen and speak.
