Clarke Celebrates National Week of the Young Child

April 25, 2016—Clarke Northampton’s preschool students and their families recently joined in the regional festivities for the National Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which celebrates early learning, young children, their teachers and families.

To kick off the week, a children’s festival was held in April at the Jackson Street School in Northampton, MA with a variety of “Brain Building” games and activities for young children and their families. Nearly 500 families attended the event, and Clarke teacher of the deaf Jeanne Moriarty was there to lead some little scientists in a springtime grass seed planting activity. Children also enjoyed touring a police car, a school bus, a fire engine and a dump truck!

The Clarke preschool students also joined 36 area early childhood programs in creating and displaying artwork at local businesses. Our young Clarke artists displayed self-portraits at Sip, a café located in the heart of downtown Northampton.

The events were sponsored by Northampton Public Schools, Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Programs (CFCE) and Northampton Parents Center through a grant from the MA Department of Early Education and Care.
