NFL Player Connor Barwin Discusses Hearing Loss with Children at Clarke Philadelphia

February 16, 2016—On Tuesday, February 16, Clarke Philadelphia was delighted to receive a visit from Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Connor Barwin (#98).

He spent the morning touring classrooms, visiting with current students and alumni, answering plenty of questions from the excited children and talking to them about his hearing loss. Connor was born deaf and still has hearing loss in one ear.

Connor was interviewed by Clarke alumni Gio and Chase, who asked him questions about football, what he likes about living in Philadelphia, and which Star Wars character he prefers. Barwin turned the tables on the young boys by asking them if they had girlfriends, to which they both answered "yes.” He also had a great conversation with mainstream student Jahmer, during which they discussed their similar hearing losses and the importance of balancing sports and school work.

Signing autographs and posing for photos all along the way, Connor visited the preschool classrooms and answered their questions about his hearing loss and football career. He also helped the children make a Philadelphia Eagles-themed art project, and read them Kick the Football, Charlie Brown!.

Watch the clip below to see Connor’s Q&A with Clarke Philadelphia students and stay tuned for an album of photos posted next week on Clarke's Facebook page and in our photo gallery.
