In recent years, newborn hearing screening and the use of technology such as cochlear implants, coupled with Listening and Spoken Language programs like Clarke, have enabled children who are deaf or hard of hearing to learn, to listen and speak at an early age. Many are now prepared to enter mainstream schools by kindergarten. Through Clarke’s Mainstream Services, highly-trained teachers go out into the community to provide essential support to children with hearing loss who are learning in regular classroom settings. Through a variety of customizable services, Clarke works with students, parents and school professionals to provide information, support, and teaching services to give every child the chance to reach their full potential. The goal of Mainstream Services is to ensure that children who are deaf or hard of hearing progress through their academic years at the same rate as their hearing peers, and have access to the same academic, social, and extracurricular opportunities.

“We are extremely grateful to the TD Charitable Foundation for their wonderful investment in our Mainstream Services Program,” said Corwin. “Supporters such as the Foundation help Clarke ensure that children who are deaf or hard of hearing can excel in our local schools and be full members of their school communities.”

Established in 1867 in Northampton, Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech has a proud history of providing children who are deaf or hard of hearing children with the listening, learning and spoken language skills they need to succeed. Currently its five campus locations include Boston, Jacksonville, New York, Northampton and Philadelphia. For more information, please visit www.clarkeschools.org.
