City Year and Microsoft Team up to Record Stories for Clarke New York Families

November 10, 2014—On October 28, Clarke New York was the beneficiary of a City Year New York “Day of Service” at Microsoft’s Times Square offices. Forty Microsoft employees teamed up to help create multi-lingual reading kits for the our students and their parents.

Several volunteers recorded “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?” in one of the many languages spoken in the homes of our New York families. Finger puppet sets and book marks were made by some volunteers and all were tucked into boxes beautifully decorated by other Microsoft team members. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the finished reading kits so that we can incorporate them into our lending library as soon as possible. We are grateful to all the Microsoft volunteers who dedicated their time and talents for our families and to our friends at City Year New York, especially Genisha Wallace, Civic Engagement Coordinator, and Nichole Hill, Civic Engagement Program Manager.
