Clarke Speech-Language Pathologist Presents Webinar on iPad Apps

January 5, 2014—On November 25, 2013, Nina Fistler from Clarke Northampton traveled to Portland, Maine to co-present a webinar at the Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MECDHH). Christa Cook of the Early Childhood Program at MECDHH served as co-presenter. The webinar, There’s An App for That: An Introduction to Using Apps to Target Spoken Language Skills, provided key information on speech and language iPad apps for parents and professionals working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The audience consisted of families, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers of the deaf, and preschool and daycare staff. The presentation covered the features of a useful app, demonstrations of app use, and an overview of resources.

Viewers of the webinar could access multiple feeds during the presentation, including a video feed of the presenters, a CART transcript, a visual of the powerpoint presentation, and a visual of the iPad screen. These visual supports made the webinar especially accessible for people with hearing loss. The webinar also featured a message board system where participants could type questions and comments during the webinar, allowing the presenters to address questions in real time.
