Clarke Launches New Social Programs for Children and Teens with Hearing Loss

January 5, 2014—Clarke is pleased to announce the new Linking Up! Program, a series of social activities designed for the needs of children with hearing loss. Activities are led by experienced teachers of the deaf and encourage leadership and independence while enhancing listening, communication, and social skills.

The Linking Up! Program is coordinated by Kaitlyn Millen, a Teacher of the Deaf at Clarke Northampton. She is on the board of the Massachusetts A.G. Bell Association as the Director of Teen Programs and directs Clarke’s “Explore the Outdoors” summer program for teens. “The goal of the Linking Up! Program is to help participants build relationships with children who also have a hearing loss. Connecting with peers can help children feel less isolated, establish new friendships, and develop confidence and a sense of identity,” reports Millen. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue to connect students with hearing loss!”
