Clarke Announces Dates for 2014 Oral Transliterating Workshop


November 25, 2013—Clarke Mainstream Services in Northampton, MA, will hold a practical and interactive 4-day oral transliterating workshop on March 24-27, 2014. Taught by nationally certified oral transliterators, this 30 hour training program will feature an introduction to hearing loss, an overview of voicing techniques, and live modeling sessions. Clarke offers the only program in the United States that trains educational oral transliterators who help facilitate communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The cost to attend is $550 per person. Massachusetts Professional Development Points (PDPS) and Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) CEUs are available for participants who complete the program.

This program will cover:

  • An introduction to hearing and hearing loss
  • The processes of speech reading and speech production
  • Production of clear and visible speech
  • Expressive oral transliterating and related support techniques
  • Voicing techniques
  • Roles and responsibilities of educational oral transliteratorss
  • Practical applications of the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Live modeling situations with consumers of oral transliterating
  • Discounted oral transliterating practice materials (when purchased at training)
