Clarke to Hold Free Parent Workshops in Springfield, MA

September 16, 2013—Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech is pleased to announce a series of free workshops on social skills and advocacy for parents of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.

The workshops are designed for parents of children of all ages with hearing loss. The first workshop, Supporting Your Child’s Social Success, will take place on Sunday, September 22nd from 1:00-3:00. Cynthia Forsythe, an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and School Psychologist, will offer strategies for helping children navigate the complexities of social interactions with peers. The workshop will include a question and answer session for individualized assistance.

The second workshop, All About Advocating for Your Child will be held on Sunday, November 24th from 1:00-3:00. Martha A. deHahn, a parent of two young adults who are deaf, and Marian Hartblay, Director of Early Childhood Services at Clarke, will serve as co-presenters. The session will provide an opportunity for participants to share tips, tools, and resources for advocating for a child who is deaf or hard of hearing.

The workshops will take place at the offices of ENT Surgeons of Western New England, located at 100 Wason Avenue in Springfield, MA. This location is easily accessible and can accommodate a large group. Registration is required for seating and materials. Both workshops are offered free of charge.

Clarke provides children who are deaf and hard of hearing with the listening, learning and spoken language skills they need to succeed. Clarke Northampton serves children of all ages through our infant-toddler, preschool, K-8, and mainstream services programs.
