Professionals from Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont Attend Clarke Mainstream Services Workshop

May 29, 2013—Over 60 professionals attended “Supporting Students with Hearing Loss in Mainstream Educational Settings,” on May 3, 2013 in Sturbridge, MA. Presented by Clarke Mainstream Services, the daylong training was designed for speech and language pathologists, teachers of the deaf, early intervention providers, parents of children with hearing loss, and audiologists. Participants traveled from greater Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Vermont and Maine to attend. The program offered ASHA Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Workshop attendees learned how to use apps and technology to motivate and stimulate speech, language and listening for toddlers, preschool, and elementary students with hearing loss. Participants reported that they gained a deeper understanding of auditory brain development, its impact on spoken language development, and the role parents and professional teams play in supporting the development of listening and spoken language in children with hearing loss.
