Clarke Hearing Center’s Joni Skinner, AuD has been selected as a breakout session speaker at The Alzheimer Association of MA/NH’s "Map Through the Maze: a conference for Alzheimer Care Professionals" in Marlborough, MA on May 21, 2014.

Dr. Skinner’s talk, entitled Hear Me Now, Remember it Later: Hearing Loss and Dementia is scheduled during session B at 1:15 to 2:30 pm and will cover:

  1. The relationship between hearing loss and dementia.
  2. The impact of audiological treatment for individuals with memory loss.
  3. How to implement communication strategies for persons with both hearing and cognitive impairment.

This workshop will offer a review of the research that is revealing a strong correlation between hearing loss and cognitive function; provide increased awareness of how to provide enhanced support to your clients and their families with the goal of aging in place; and allow participants to gain a better understanding of how they can help those with dementia to optimize their ability to communicate and participate in the world around them thereby improving their overall quality of life.

As a non-profit organization, our work is not sales driven, but rather emphasizes quality services, education and empowerment for each client. We provide individualized attention aimed at helping all individuals function happily and effectively in their day-to-day lives with the equipment and support that is most appropriate for them.

Family Involvement

Whether our client is an infant, a teenager or an adult, we understand that hearing loss affects not just the client, but also their family, friends and colleagues. When appropriate, we encourage family members and significant others to attend appointments and learn with the patient how the individual’s hearing loss impacts their overall listening and communication.
